Hi Forum gals, I've been absent for a while, as I was busy with Yom Atsmaut and catching babes! Four beautiful natural home births. First a first birth in Jerusalem, who had been starting and stopping for a few days but when she finally really started, it went beautifully and she had a lovely waterbirth. They were an orthodox couple and it was very spiritual with candles and her husband praying while adding more hot water to the pool. When her labor began she took long walk to the kotel and did some serious praying and feels that this helped her very much. It was a joyous celebration. The cord was wrapped three times around the neck but there were no signs at all of distress and as soon as I picked up the baby out of the water I quickly unraveled the cord and gave the baby to Mom's outstretched arms and he went straight to the breast. The next birth was truely amazing. A first time Mom, also starting and stopping, and overdue at least a week. There is a family history of fast births, including, Mother, and 4 sisters. Water broke at l0:30 with no contractions. Soon after contractions began, they called me and while I was on the Ayalon they called again to say that the baby was already out 6 minutes, safely caught by the hands of Dad ( who is a doctor, and all is well. I arrived to find a glowing new Mom, a gloating new Dad, who also had helped with the placenta catching, and all I had to do was help cut the cord and weigh the baby and tuck everybody into bed. Her sister was there and told me that they all give birth like this in their family. Who needs midwives with births like this? What a great first birth. Next mo;rning was another great birth and an old-timer. I had helped her with her other 2 babies. They came to my clinic at night from the war-zone teritories, and the whole family showed up for the occasion. As is her way, she popped the baby out after about an hour and a half of contractions, of which the last half hour were in the shower. Another sweet baby. Last night, as I was just about to check the forum, I got a call about midnight that her contractions had started. I knew that it was a second birth and I had to drive to Michmoret, and they wanted to rent the new birth pool from England. I loaded up the car and off I sped to the north, with great music all the way and an empty hightway and my adrenalin flowing. As I pulled in her husband came out to greet me and I heard her grunting and making birth noises. I grabbed my gloves and birth kit, and sawa her squatting in the shower, and I knew that it was time to get those gloves on fast. One glove on, quarter head out, other glove on, half a head out, please breathe and slowly all the gorgeous head slides into my hands, next push and all the body is out. I'm so glad that I didn't stop to get gas on the way, or pee before I left the house as I would have missed this birth too! I really think that homebirths just go faster. Of course the pool ws never used! It's waiting for you! All these births were lovely. All moms and babes are doing well, and this is one satisfied midwife who now has time to write to you about my adventures in the world of natural homebirth.
