back from Malta and after a lovely waterbirth

Greetings to you all, and hope that that you all had a pleasant and meaningful holiday season. I took a well-needed vacation with my entire family of husband, and three girls and one boyfriend. We went to the Island of Malta and had great fun for nearly two weeks discovering new places and swimming, snorkling, and it is a lovely picturesque, quaint, place. It was refreshing not to see any malls or supermarkets or barely fast food. When I was on the plane back, my fingers were restless. I didn't know then that someone back home had begun contractions and was waiting for me to arrive. After resting a few hours after the flight, I got a call from hubby that wifey was having irregular contractions. I was very excited as I hadn't checked a dilating vagina or caught a baby in two weeks! It was a beautiful waterbirth in Kfar Sirkin, first birth, with not even a scratch on her perineum. She had practiced with the epi-no and I'm sure it was very effective. In fact, the head came out so fast at one point that I thought her man was going to miss the birth! She had been gently pushing in the big tub for an hour, and then he went outside for just a minute. She suddenly decided to give a really big push, and all of a sudden half the head was out. This is unusual in a first birth, as usually you see the head emerging slowly, going in and out each contraction a little more, but sliding back in each time, and then it just keeps coming slowly out. Here, probably due to the epi-no, this stage is faster, and the birth is easier since her perineum is not so tight. I began to call him frantically, and he rushed in just in time to see the whole head fully emerge, and a minute later the rest of the body and total euphoria!! Nice to be back at work again!
