I had a great sleep until 1:30. I was refreshed and recharges. Meanwhile the first couple had gone home, so I cleaned the clinic and washed the sheets and all. Then I get a call from Michal that her water broke this morning and she has contractions and will soon be on her way. She is too weeks early. I'm talking to Ruti on the phone, and she asks me what about Gila who is l0 days overdue. Nothing so far I tell her. Then the phone rings, and guess who?? Gila is in labor and I am wondering how this will work out as they are both first births in the clinic. It sounds like Gila has a long way to go. Just in case, I clean up my daughter's roon (she is in the army) and it is a teenage disaster. I pick up all the crap from the floor and shove it in the closet (don't dare to open it) and vacuum and change sheets, and cover mattress with rubber sheet. It looks good. I add some candles,bring in a CD player, bring some birth supplies, and set up another birth room. Michal arrives, she is inmajor active labor with contractions every 2 minutes, long and strong. She is 4 centimeters, goes into jacuzzi, and one hour later is ready to push. She squats in the jacuzi with her man behind her and I put on my new elbow length gloves and catch the baby. She is so cool and I can't believe what a terrific birth she had. Magical moment, and we are all so moved. She gets out of the bath, holding the still attatched baby, lies down begins to nurse and births the placenta. No stitches and all is well. The phone rings, and Gila's husband says they are near Zerifin and she feels like pushing. Could this be? I tell him to bypass the traffic on the shoulder and I'll be waiting for them. 10 minutes later I met them outside and Gila has that close to birth look and she comes in the house, goes to pee and says she thinks the head is coming out! Lo and behold, I give a peek and see baby hair coming out of her vagina! She goes to the new makeshift birthing room, and begins to push just as her body tells her to do. Her perineum is like butter and in l0 minutes the head is out, and she is pulling the baby out herself and up to her chest. The epi-no practice really made a difference and this was like a second birth, not a first. Such excitement. She breastfeeds. I go back to clinic and check on Michal who is ecstatic and doing fine.Back to Gila, to see if placenta is ready to come out. Not yet. After an hour of trying, including getting up to toilet to pee, and breastfeeding the whole time, the placenta won't separte from the uterus. No bleeding and she feels fine. Ho;wever, we can't take any risks so we go to Asaf Harofe. Theyar unbelievabley nice and considerate , including midwives Yehudit and Gilaia and Dr.Winer. They also try but no choice but to remove it manually with general anesthesia in the operating room. Meanwhile Dad is holding baby and I'm there too. Wonderful humane and professional treatment. This is why you need to birth close to a hospital and have cooperation. She lost more blood than usual during the procedure so they have to stay the next day. Although there is not
