Dear Anat2, I think it is much better to do a pregnancy follow-up with a midwife if you are planning a homebirth. This gives you more of a chance to get to know each other and there are less conflicts about philosophy. Also the midwife spends much more time with you and will be available to answer any questions by phone at all times, and you will feel freer to ask her intimate questions as she is a woman. However, it is best to do all your bloodwork first through the doctor and if you want to do an organ screen then you can get referrel through kupat cholim. You can see the doctor from your kupa for the first trimester, and then switch to the midwife. You could speak first to her and ask her any questions about what tests should be done. Doctors usually do way to much ultrasound follow-up and way too little looking and hands-on and meeting your emotional needs. Some midwives charge for each prenatal visit, some include it with their birth package fee.
