Amy had a great birth--she is a mover and a shaker!

Mazal Tov to Amy and Boaz,
Amy wanted a ride with me to the Nashim Korot Laledet happening on Friday. However, Fri. morning she was busy nursing her newborn that was born Thurs morning, at 39 weeks. What a great birth. She had a prenatal appointment that afternoon, and she looked great at the checkup but said that she was having light contractions every 7 minutes for the past few hours. She went home and I had a feeling that I would be seeing her again soon. She arrived again that night around midnight with 3 cm. and good contractions and good effacement. Boy was she a mover!! She used to dance, and she is a physiotherapist, so it's no wonder. She seemed to like the hands-and knees position best, and really swung that pelvis like a pro! Once she lied down for me to examine her dilation, and she said "how can anyone ever lie down during contractions?? Good question. The last thing a birthing room needs is a bed, as most women really can't lie in active labor. She enjoyed the jacuzi but at some point wanted to get out to dry land and soon she was feeling the urge to push. She needed no instruction--totally attuned to her bodies needs, but enjoying the stroking and massaging that her good friend and myself gave. Her husband was a very calming and encouraging force, and there was great energy in the room. There was nice classical music and candles and good smelling ylang-yland oil burning. She had lots of shaking during transition, and was literally shaking that baby out. I gave her no active pushing instruction, she just listened to her body and was on all fours, and then there were some good grunts and then half the head was out and she breathed and I oiled and the baby slipped into my hands, and we all oohed and aahed, and she grabbed the baby up through her legs to her stomach, and there was great joy and another miracle of birth. No tearing, no stitching, the placenta was squatted out, and the baby nursed. Amy said, "there's nothing like natural birth for a boost to your self-esteem" I agree. Another empowered woman revelling in the wonders of her body and nature. Ilana Shemesh
