This morning at 8:30 the phone rang and she said that her contractions were coming nice and strong every five minutes and they were ready to leave and would be at my birthplace in a half an hour. The beginning of a beautiful Shabat morning. Two weeks ago she spent the night here with false labor, and it was dissapointing for all of us when everything stopped and she went home with a big belly with the baby still inside. This time it was for real. She wanted a homebirth but lives too far from a hospital, so she came to me like her other two births. It is so nice and familiar for us to birth together. This time she wanted a waterbirth. When she arrived her contractions were good and she was 3 centimeters dilated with a paper-thin cervix, the kind that opens very quickly. Soon she went into the jacuzzi, stuck her head under and came up like a whale shpritzing water. She just loved that bath!! Then she felt a "plop" and her water broke. She said that she could actually feel her cervix opening up and the baby moving down. She was moaning and making waves with her moving around in the water. Then she began to push, and in five minutes the head was out, and then we all looked to see if it had red hair like Mommy, but no--dark hair like brother. Then in one push out came the shoulders and the body, and I scooped him up and onto her chest to meet his Gingy Mommy face to face. The smell of the jasmine candle was so sweet and it was such a fun birth. Her placenta separated in the next five minutes and the baby nursed well and I made a nice breakfast for everyone, and then we all took a nice nap. Great Shabat ! Birth is beautiful!! Ilana
