Castor oil is an intervention and certainly not a pleasant one. IT has no taste but drinking oil is not fun, and makes some women very nauseous. Some women have no problem with it and others nearly vomit. Obviously it is much less invasive than Pitocin and you don't need to be hooked up to a monitor or have an IV. But it causes diahrea (shilshul) and can aggravate hemorrhoids , . The main thing is not to take it unless it is really necessary like in a big baby, or if you have gone 13-14 days overdue, or if there is very little water left. Otherwise nature really knows best when to start your labor. It doesn't always work, especially in first births, but if you are ripe then it can definately be very effective. Always worth trying instead of Pitocin or prostaglandin induction.
