stories like this will continue as long as strong women make it happen, by demanding their rights to birth as they wish and with whom and where. As long as there are brave midwives out there who won't let fear paralyze them, and are willing to take that one step out on the ledge to enable women to birth their children in their own way with dignity. All my career the public and the medical establishment has been trying to make me afraid: afraid of all the terrible things that can happen at birth, afraid of losing my license, afraid of being sued. I choose to put these fears in a locked draw and look instead at the beauty and safety of birth, and trusting women's body and my midwifery knowledge so that I can help women to empower them and have the births they desire and deserve. Not to say that I never worry, and that the current political witch hunt that is going on doesn't distrub me greatly. When I found out that my insurance will not be renewed, it was the most difficult decision of my career so far. Should I give in to the fear of a lawsuit in case of a bad outcome and stop birthing babies forever??? Or shall I trust my couples to take responsibility and trust me that I will always do my best for them and continue the work that I love and that is the passion of my life. I choose to continue and not let women lose the option of safe homebirth.
