dEAR Hani, It is a shame that you did not have the baby turned at 37-38 weeks, as this is the best situation and the least risky. For a first birth, there are definate risks with a breech birth, however, with a skilled doctor , the risk is much less. Cesarians also have risks. If the baby is not over 3500, and the head is well flexed, and the labor progresses well, then you have a really good chance of a really normal birth. The risk is that the baby's body will come out easily, and then the head will be difficult to come out, as it is the largest part of the baby's body. This could cause a lack of oxygen to the baby if it took a very long time to get the baby out. I had a client who planned a home birth. When she arrived her dilation was small and I did not realize that the baby was breech. Neither did her doctor a few days before. Anyway, her labor progressed rapidly and she was 8 cm. at the next check and I knew that it was breech. So we went to the hospital. It was a small baby, around 3000 g. She refused a Cesarian, refused an episiotomy, and had a lovely and very easy breech vaginal birth with no stitches . She used the epi-no before. So it is definately possible to have a good birth, but you need to be assertive as they will try to force a Cesarian since they are afraid of being sued. You have to make the decision. You could also hire a private doctor who; is very experienced in breech births.
