answers about episiotomy and assertiveness

To beg not to be cut is not to be assertive. To be assertive is to refuse to be cut. If you go to a hospital to begin with, this is a problem. If you don't know the person who you will birth with, this is a greater problem. The only time you need to be cut is if there is fetal distress and the extra minutes to wait for the slow stretching could be dangerous for the babies welfare. Or if you have a midwife, that almost never cuts (one persent), and she says that there is just no way she can get the baby out without a big tear, and you expect a huge baby, then this is a justified episiotomy. But if you have a midwife that cuts 50% of the time for first births, I would not trust such a judgement.
