Wow-what a great experience I had a few nights ago. I was called to a birth at 3 AM. It took me close to an hour to get there and it was raining, but the roads were empty so that was nice. As soon as I arrived I was greeted by two very large and friendly white dogs, and being a dog-lover myself that gave me a good feeling. When I opened the door, I got huge hellos from a whole gang of people. There were candles all over, and I was greeted by the pregnant sister, the brother, the husband and finally the birthing women! There was so much laughter and massaging and joking around, while that girl moved and swayed and rocked that baby down in her pelvis. It wasn't a real quick birth, but the atmosphere was just so splendid that I felt like I was at a party, with dancing and laughing and shmoozing and tea, coffee, snacks, cake and little naps when each one of us tired. Even the music all night on the radio was great. At about 8:30 AM, when the sun was out and the candles finished, things got serious, but still happy and high spirits. I never thought someone could be so free with her body in front of her brother, and it was lovely to see such support. She liked it best with herself hanging onto her man and her brother massaging her aching belly from behind during the contractions, sometimes her sister also. I was only worried that her pregnant sister would go into early labor from the stress of being up all night and massaging, but I made sure she was drinking enough. For the birth, she squatted on the bed with her husband behind her, her sister on the side wiping her forehead, her brother filming from the other side and with a mirror propped up so she could see. First the bag of water came out and then burst, then a few more pushes, and surprize surprize, a head facing up (posterior) and then the whole baby right after. It was loads of excitement and people were crying with joy and laughing and then the grandparents came and everyone was very excited. That was a real family affair! Ilana
