Oh, and I actualy wrote it some time back, so don't worry if you are not up for it. It has served me already (the story, not the events.. though the events as well ;-)) Manty
I met my Juey in Israel. It was February 1992. I was 22 y.o. had just come back from Japan, and was about to start university in the fall. My trip to Japan left me wanting more so I signed up for an evening course in Japanese, at Haifa University - once a week, on Tuesday (one never forgets these tiny details, amazing). Juey (dh) had always been interested in the Jewish people and Israel. He had planned to come the year before, but due to the Gulf war (the first one) it got postponed. He came to Israel for 2 months, during his spring vacation from university. He wanted to volunteer at a Kibbutz, but was refused due to the short period of stay. He spent a week in Tel-Aviv and then wanted to see the border with Lebanon. So he packed his bags and got on a bus to Haifa. He figured he'd make his base there and would make trips from there up north. So he settled in the bus and (like any good commuting Japanese person), went to sleep. He was shocked to be woken an hour later at his destination. Had he known how close Haifa was, he would have made a day trip out of it... Still he decided to make the most out of it so he checked into a youth hostel and started exploring the city. As he was walking the Hadar, a youngster approached him saying 'Nihonjin desuka? Genki desu ka?' (Are you Japanese?, How are you?) A bit shocked by the directness (don't get me started about the Japanese manners) but happy to find a 'Japanese speaker' he started conversing with this guy. By the time they were done it was agreed that Juey is moving into this guy's bachelor apartment! And so was done. The following day this guy took Juey to his weekly Japanese lesson and that is where the 2 heroes met (inserting a heart icon...) Well, the truth must be told that I was not very impressed with him at first - he was unshaved, wore a gustily pink shirt, and had too much confidence! He too found a different girl in the class more..how should I say attractive? But alas she was married After the lesson we all went back to the bachelor’s apartment and we got talking. I was basically unemployed with too much spare time on hand so I offered to show him around. The following days I took him on tours, but more then just exploring the sites we started looking inside and finding.. what is it called..LOVE! The 2 month trip to Israel turned into a 2 month trip to Haifa (minus the first week in Tel-Aviv and another one in the middle to Jerusalem). The day he left I took him by bus to Tel-Aviv and we separated with big sobs. He went back to finish his last year at university... I joined him a month after he left . We lived together in a guest-house for 4 months and then it was fair-well time again, I had to go start university... He joined me 2 days later and spent 3 more weeks in Israel before his fall term started. And then we REALLY separated. I soon found a different guy (Greek this time) and let Juey know we were done. He refused to accept it and kept sending me heart breaking letters (pre email times). He came to Israel the next spring-brake and although I gave him another try (I could never resist him face to face ) I was not ready for any commitments. A few months later I hooked up with a...religious guy (the most extreme choice in my family's eyes). Juey came AGAIN to Israel to win me back, with partial success.. but again I was unwilling to commit. But then the day came and university was over and I had to suddenly face the rest of my life. At that moment I knew where I wanted to be - with Juey! So I packed my bags, said good bye to religion and flew to Japan. We lived together for 3 months and then I returned to Israel to finish up papers. Juey was sent to the States for 6 months for work and I joined him there for 4 months. I went back to Israel for my brother's wedding while Juey returned to Japan and then joined me for 3 weeks. After that we came to Japan TOGETHER. SOOOO after 5 years, 20 flights and God knows how many phone calls and letters, we tied the knot and here we are 7 years later with 3 little ones to show for it
If you've made it this far - Arigato
