Dear Tal, Birth hurts, It's a fact of life. Epidural helps the pain but has it's price of lots of side effects and complications, ranging from minor to major and life threatening. Birth pain is definately manageable if you have the right frame of mind and understand the birth process, and of course if you are not in bed with a monitor and infusion. You have choices and you have options. It is a matter of safety and power. If you lie in the bed and take the IV and monitor and lose your most important method of pain relief --your mobility-- it is no one's fault but your own. You can use a TENS machine, get into a bath, use a shower, massage and lots of techniques which are not dangerous. Remember that for 40 years they were cutting all the women and now they are admitting that it's probably more harmful than good to do episiotomies. Learn from this that not everything that the "experts " do is in your best interests. Take charge of your body and you can do it. I've birthed hundreds of women without epidurals and they had positive experiences. A woman's body is made to birth. Ilana Shemesh
