no reason to stay in bed after waters break Rachlika

Rachlika, It is a mistake that women are told that if their waters break they must stay in bed. Cord prolapse is extremely rare. Only in the uncommon case of a very high head or a high breech should women not be able to walk around. I worked for years in Misgav Ledach and we were the only hospital that allowed women to walk around with broken bag of waters, and there were no problems with cords. The only cord prolapse I saw there was when a doctor broke water on a high head! Staying home until the last minute is probably OK, but a bit risky when no midwife is there to listen to the heartbeat of the baby. Safer to have a supervised homebirth. You will be more relaxed and not be nervous about when to go to the hospital or risk having your husband catch the baby.
