Sorry for the English – away from my Hebrew keyboard…
I chose Academia because it seemed like the most interesting and convenient way of life – You can spend many days at home (at least in the my area), have lots of free time, go to conferences – and most important – research just what you fill like researching. So I guess you are right – we are inclined to search for “rigushim” for to reasons: we are naturally less conventional people, and this is enhanced by our way of life (solitude work, which brings boredom and yearly excitements). I hope that after I start to teach on a regular bases the extremes (daily loneliness against rear excitements) will be softened. And the rise for “kviu’t” starts then – which brings a sense of purpose. But you already know about that – does it work that way?
A second point, raised by others, is that I think both of us had it way too easy – I did not sweet for my husband (always had boyfriends, and then got married rather young), my kids (got pregnant the first month of trying). Even my studding went OK –just the usual amount of hassle. So – it’s our blessing. But in a very small way (and wouldn’t want to change it) our burden. I’m going to think some more of the idea of doing good to others. Maybe that will work.
Thank you Neta for bringing up the subject.
